Láddu

(2024)

Láddu (Sami for “pond”) is a humble, thoughtfully crafted key cabinet made from elm and black alder, chosen for their subtle contrast. Inspired by a 1902 Jugendstil cabinet by Valentin and Ingolf Kielland, I wanted to explore how traditional craftsmanship can be brought into a modern context. The idea arose from a desire to reimagine a functional everyday object like a key cabinet with some extra care and attention to detail, making it feel more special— drawing from long traditions of emphasising the intrinsic value of beauty, rather than focusing solely on practicality.
